74 Arrested in Galveston County During Operation Firecracker Crackdown

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — A major law enforcement initiative aimed at reducing violent crime has wrapped up with dozens of arrests throughout Galveston County and nearby regions.

Dubbed “Operation Firecracker,” the joint operation spanned June 11 to July 3 and resulted in the arrest of 74 individuals, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. The multi-agency effort focused on tracking down individuals wanted for violent and serious felony offenses.

Authorities confirmed that the crackdown led to the capture of 59 felony suspects and 39 individuals facing misdemeanor charges. Among those arrested were fugitives accused of high-profile crimes including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, sexual assault of a child, unlawful firearm possession by a felon, and indecency with a child.

The large-scale enforcement effort was coordinated by the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Division, with operational support from the Uniformed Operations Division. The initiative also relied on collaboration with a range of law enforcement partners at multiple levels:

  • Texas City Police Department

  • Galveston Police Department

  • Harris County Constables (Precincts 7 & 8)

  • Texas Department of Public Safety – Criminal Investigations Division

  • Galveston County Adult Probation Department

  • U.S. Marshals Service – Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force

In a public statement, the Sheriff’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on crime and maintaining community safety.

“Our mission is to ensure that violent offenders are removed from our streets. Operations like this are essential to protecting the people of Galveston County,” the statement read.

The Sheriff’s Office indicated that more targeted enforcement operations are likely in the future as part of their ongoing strategy to address violent crime.
