Man, 24, Gets Life Sentence for Ambushing Police Officer in 2025
CLEAR LAKE SHORES, Texas — A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison following his conviction for shooting a police officer during a late-night confrontation in August 2024.
Codey Lane Colvin was found guilty by a Galveston County jury on charges of aggravated assault against a public servant, a first-degree felony. The jury delivered its verdict and imposed the life sentence on Thursday, according to court records reviewed by KGTX 7.
The incident occurred just after midnight on july 8, 2025, when Sgt. Nathan Flores was shot in the arm during a response call on Glen Cove Boulevard in Clear Lake Shores. Flores had requested backup from League City Police and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office moments before the shooting unfolded.
After firing at the officer, Colvin fled the scene in a red Honda SUV, igniting a multi-agency chase that stretched through League City and onto Interstate 45. The Houston Police Department joined the pursuit, deploying a helicopter to track the vehicle from the air.

The pursuit ended near Watonga Boulevard in northwest Houston when Colvin’s SUV lost a tire. He was arrested without further incident around 3 a.m. The firearm used in the shooting was later recovered by investigators.
Sgt. Flores was treated at a local hospital and released later that same day.
According to prior records, Colvin had a criminal background that included unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and evading arrest. Additionally, a credit card fraud case involving Colvin had previously been dismissed.
Now serving a life sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), Colvin will not be eligible for parole for at least 30 years, in accordance with state law for violent crimes against law enforcement officers.
