Elderly Victim Carjacked in Galveston; Suspect Caught After Webster Chase
GALVESTON — A 66-year-old man is in custody after allegedly stealing an SUV from a 93-year-old woman outside a Galveston post office in a brazen daylight incident, city officials confirmed.
According to Marissa Barnett, spokesperson for the City of Galveston, the incident occurred late Thursday morning outside the Bob Lyons Post Office located at 59th Street and Broadway.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as Doug Ancell, approached the elderly woman around 10:30 a.m., took her walker, and then climbed into her vehicle before speeding off. Thankfully, the woman was not harmed during the incident.

Following the theft, police immediately alerted law enforcement agencies across the region. A short time later, officers in a nearby jurisdiction located the stolen SUV heading north on Interstate 45.
Ancell reportedly refused to stop when officers attempted to pull him over, prompting a short police pursuit. The chase ended when the SUV began to overheat, forcing the suspect to pull into a restaurant parking lot in Webster.
Deputies with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office quickly took Ancell into custody without further incident.

He has since been booked into the Galveston County Jail and is facing charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
