Texas City Man Charged with Murder in Fentanyl Death of Bacliff Mother
BACLIFF, TX — A tragic fentanyl overdose that claimed the life of a young mother in Bacliff has led to the arrest of a Texas City man, now facing serious criminal charges.
According to a press release from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Seth Harris has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence following an in-depth investigation into the death of Crista Carlin, a 26-year-old mother of one.
Carlin’s lifeless body was discovered on May 13 inside her home by her 5-year-old son, a heartbreaking moment that triggered a major investigation by authorities. Toxicology reports later confirmed the presence of fentanyl-laced narcotics in her system, pointing to a deadly overdose.
Over the next several weeks, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit worked to trace the source of the drugs. Their investigation led them to Harris, who is believed to have supplied the fatal substance.

Following a review by the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, charges were officially filed, and a bond of $350,000 was set. On July 7, Harris was located and arrested without incident by the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team at the WoodSpring Suites hotel in Texas City. A search of the hotel room reportedly uncovered additional narcotics.
Authorities say the arrest is part of a broader effort to crack down on fentanyl-related deaths across the county.
“The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to aggressively investigating and prosecuting those responsible for the distribution of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs in our communities,” the department said in a statement.
Officials are urging the public to come forward with any information related to the distribution of illegal narcotics. Tips can be directed to the Galveston County Organized Crime Task Force.
